reopener clause business definition

Provision in a labor contract allowing one or either party to reopen negotiations for the entire agreement or specific portions of the agreement. The purpose of a reopener clause is to allow one party to force the other party to renegotiate portions of the agreement covered by the reopener clause. See also midterm bargaining.
