perfect competition business definition

A market structure in which a large number of small producers and consumers cannot influence prices for identical goods and services, information is freely and readily available, resources have great mobility, and no barriers exist to entry and exit. Perfect competition is a theoretical model that produces maximum efficiency in the use of resources. Also called pure competition. See also workable competition.
