NYSE Arca business definition

An all-electronic stock market in which buyers and sellers meet directly (without intermediaries) to trade equity securities and option products. NYSE Arca was formerly known as the Archipelago Exchange, or ArcaEx, prior to its merger with the New York Stock Exchange. NYSE Arca is operated by NYSE Group, a subsidiary of NYSE Euronext.
