The world's largest electronic stock market, with trades executed through a computer and telecommunications network connecting market makers, electronic communications networks, and order-entry firms. Nasdaq trading commenced in 1971, when the National Association of Securities Dealers owned the system. Formerly called National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System.
