global shares business definition
Stock that trades in multiple currencies. For example, shares of DaimlerChrysler, considered by many to be the first truly global shares, were traded in dollars in the United States, euros in Germany, yen in Japan, and in the home currencies of several other countries. (DaimlerChrysler sold the Chrysler operation to a private equity firm in 2007.) Global shares are uncommon and are different from American Depositary Shares, which are claims on a firm's ordinary shares.
