The assigned degree of fault for injuries that are suffered when both parties contribute to an accident. For example, a person who slips on a wet floor exhibits comparative negligence if a “wet floor" sign is clearly visible. A monetary award is adjusted if a plaintiff is found to have comparative negligence. See also contributory negligence.
